The Grande Ronde Hospital Auxiliary Annual Clam Chowder Luncheon is set for this Friday in La Grande. Come out from 11AM - 1:30PM to the Presbyterian Friendship Center on the corner of 6th and Spring for an enjoyable lunch. The cost is $6, and the meal includes soup, salad, bread, and a beverage. Dessert will cost just $1.50 more, and take-out will be available. Proceeds from the luncheon go towards the purchase of patient care equipment for the Grande Ronde Hospital and Auxiliary health care profession scholarships. The Haines United Methodist church is having a Music Gathering Fundraiser to be held on Thursday, on the corner of Roberts street and the Anthony Lakes Hwy. The program helps provides meals for the youth in transition and unaccompanied youth in the La Grande School District. The Union County Art and Culture Center is offering a one day, Asian Brush Workshop, taught by Bob Proctor from Wallowa County. Mr. Proctor has studied calligraphy and brush painting since 2001, and had some work on display at the Shenzhen Fine Art Museum in China. The Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 20th, from 10AM - 5PM. Topics that will be covered include posture and using the calligraphy brush, composition, one stroke painting, and writing Asian characters and phrases. The cost of this unique, one day workshop is $40 for members of the Art Center, or $50 for non-members, plus a $10 supply cost. Soroptimist International of La Grande is still accepting applications for funding of projects and programs in Union County. The deadline for submitting applications is April 1st. Grant money must be used for Union County programs pertaining to health, education, environment, children, and the advancement of the status of women.
